How to Build Backlinks For the Small Business’s Website

November 26th, 2011

So you have researched your keywords, found some effective long tail phrases, checked out the neighborhood competition’s websites and web presence, wrote some good content for your website and slapped it all on the web.

Now what?

This is where you simply sit back watching the calls roll in, right? Well, it depends. If you have found some effective keywords and phrases and submitted your website to the search engines like google, you’ll begin to see some traffic. That’s the quick and easy part.

If you want to maintain a strong ranking in the search engines and build a powerful web presence for your website, you’re going to need to do a little leg work and make up some backlinks for the website.

What is a backlink?

Well, basically it can be considered a vote of confidence or a recommendation from the third party. Each time another site, blog, directory, article, or web site links for you – Google and also the other search engines like google see this link and take that into account when calculating their search engine rankings.

The greater backlinks your website has, the stronger your site is likely to come in the eyes from the search engines. The stronger your site appears to the search engines, the harder it will likely be for your competitors to get a higher ranking than you.

But I just built my website, I don’t have any links.

That’s okay. The important thing to building links is that you don’t need 100 new backlinks to look overnight. You simply want a steady and consistent flow of backlinks with time. This is called organic growth. If you’re getting 15 new backlinks aimed at your website a week, it will not be well before you have a excellent website developed and it’ll be very difficult for the competitors to beat your superior search engine ranking.

How do you build backlinks?

There are a number of ways to build them. Shoot, there are even people you can hire to construct backlinks for you personally. But when you aim for 2 new backlinks each day, you’ll be averaging almost 15 new ones per week and like I said, this is a good goal to construct a strong web presence.

Articles

Article promotion is a good way to drive quality visitors to your site in addition to build backlinks to your website. The idea is this: write a brief article (300 – 500 words) on a topic related to your business. Say you’re an electrical contractor, then you might write articles on Installing a brand new ceiling fan or How you can rewire a garage or some other kind of electrical information that a consumer will dsicover useful.

In the article, be sure to include a link or two that links aimed at your website or a specific page in your website – preferably using some from the keywords and key phrases that you’re targeting on your website as anchor text.

Submit the content to article directories. You will find literally hundreds, actually probably thousands of article directories on the internet. Many of them have the freedom to submit to, some will even pay you for original content. One of my favorites, along with a popular the first is EzineArticles. This is literally 1 of numerous on the internet. When you submit the article to a directory – they will publish it and so the search engines will crawl your article and discover the link back to your site, thus giving your website much more strength within the search engine’s eyes.
